Campbeltown was once described as "The Whisky Capital of the World" and, at its height, there were over 30 working distilleries. Nowadays there are 3 working distilleries remaining, Glen Scotia, Springbank and Glengyle.

Islay, a ferry ride lasting one and half hours, is the most southerly of The Hebridean Isles. It has 9 working distilleries producing the characteristic, pungent Islay Malts. The distilleries are:

Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, Port Askaig, Kilchoman, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain.

There is also The Jura Distillery, a short ferry ride from Islay.
